Unity Above Odds

(Ever wondered what kept me busy these past few weeks? Read on..)

The sudden jolt brought me back to my senses; I can still feel the rush of pressure between my nerves and bones. Checking my scanner, I see the Corite Ranger sprawled beneath my BMAU drowned in a pool of blood. Training my sensors for a next target, I’ve noticed the skirmishes against Corites were successful. Time to finish them off, I thought. As I was about to push the booster forward, a new order was given through the commlink, “All troops engaging the retreating Corites return here at BCC, prepare to support Accretian side.”

It was Oski, the one councilman revered most, as being a charismatic leader and brilliant strategist during his reign as Archon, was the one who announced the order. We were still hot and pushing hard on the Corites, but upon hearing those commands we stopped dead on our tracks and despite the heat of adrenalin still coursing through our veins, we went back to our control chip and reestablished positions.

After quick systems check I heard another transmission from Oski, “Requesting more troops here in Crags, BCC threatened by Cora and Accretia.”

Within moments, Imperial troops blitzed and crashed with the Eastern Defense Wing. Explosions and clangs of steel were heard, as sound from launcher fire and Accretian steel was met with resistance from our side. Various elements from guilds like: Mistah, ClanRogueWolf, HolyOrder, Brethren, and Dreadnaughts immediately rushed forward to impede the Accretian advance.

It’s been more than 2hrs since we’ve been forced to hold position and protect our chip. Both the Corites and Accretians took turns on breaking our lines. We have remained steadfast though. Every wave of attack was fended off, each time we defended successfully, our motivation got stronger and we pushed harder. But it has a backside; we were getting worn out. Some have fallen due to fatigue; others are now being tended by the Force Healers.

I have already exhausted all my BMAU drops; the first three have been carted out for repairs on the MAU bay in Solus. And the last one I’m using is already battered plus its sub-ammo is depleted. Great, I mused. One desperate all out charge mounted simultaneously by both Cora and Accretia, if that happens, we’re all done for. Scouting reports and spies have given us needed updates to prepare for each ensuing assault.

Like thunder and lightning, Cora and Accretia assaulted both sides concurrently. The Archon, 26Red was at the forefront of the wing facing Accretia while Councilman, CZCisco stood at the helm of us defending the Cora side. “Calling all Federal troops, we need you here in Crag Mines! Cora and Accretia are attacking BCC!” Oski shouted over the commlink. With grim determination, we fought back as we were being pushed back to our portal. Casualties mounted on all sides, it was the moment of truth, if we fallback, either Cora or Accretia will win all hardships rendered on this war. Exhausted and worn down, Bellatos started to fall, side by side. We were losing ground… Both fronts are pressing their advance while we were slowly pulling back. A rout on one wing would result for the entire Federation army to retreat.

Then it happened.

Fresh troops and mobile reinforcements arrived; they led a counterattack surprising the enemy. Those who were about to retreat, immediately reformed their lines. Tooth and nail, we met their charge and fought back. Focus fire on each individual entwined by a spell or MAU’s net while area of effect attacks were performed in synchronous motion. Spell Casters and High ranked Rangers nuked with renewed vigor, while Berzerkers and Shield Millers steadily advanced as BMAUs darted in and out to harass and batter the enemy lines.

We were still in the heat of battle when notification came; the wartime limit has already reached its conclusion. The battle for control of the mines has finally ended. The control chips have lost their power to contain the Keeper. We didn’t get to mine at the core, or receive the plums accorded for this war, but we won. We won by virtue of being united and standing firm amidst odds faced. That fact we successfully protected our Control Chip despite numerous attacks, and remained united was already victory in its purest way.

Whenever I recall that war, it was not for personal gain or glory that I fought for, it was more than that. I can still hear the shouts of fellow Federation troops; victory was never sweeter than anything I’ve felt before. It still echoes in my mind, tuned with the beats of my heart, this is what we fight for; this is what we believe in and this is what we live for and it shared spot with the virtue each Bellato had that day.
